Women on Ice by Wayne NortonWayne Norton’s fascinating book about the little-known early history of women’s hockey in western Canada, Women on Ice, seems to be our book of the moment — Wayne Norton has done interviews with CBC radio in Kelowna and Victoria, Studio 4 with Fanny Kiefer in Vancouver, and most recently, the Globe and Mail. If you’re going to be in Vancouver on January 24th, you can meet Wayne Norton and hear more about what he has discovered about early women’s hockey. He’ll be at the Rhizome Cafe at 317 E. Broadway from 6pm-9pm for the grand launch of Women on Ice.

Canadian South Asian authors Sheila James (In the Wake of Loss) and Ashok Mathur (A Little Distillery in Nowgong) will launch their respective books at Saint Mary’s University, Halifax, on Thursday, January 28 at 7 pm. The launch will take place in the Saint Mary’s University Art Gallery, which is located on the ground floor of the Loyola building at 5865 Gorsebrook Avenue. It is also accessible from Robie or Inglis streets through the Loyola building.

There will be plenty of time before and after the formal(ish) part of the evening to enjoy a drink or two, or even have dinner. You may be surprised to learn what Wayne discovered about the rich history of women’s hockey in Western Canada — we certainly were!
Come and celebrate this important book that’s been getting attention from Studio 4 with Fanny Kiefer, the Globe and Mail, and CBC radio.
