March 20: Inge Israel, Barbara Pelman & Pamela Porter in Vancouver

On Sunday, March 20, Victoria poets Inge Israel, Barbara Pelman & Pamela Porter will be reading at Ardea Books & Art, 2025 West 4th Ave, Vancouver, BC.

This event will be the launch party for Inge Israel‘s spring 2011 release, Beckett Soundings. It will also be a celebration of the release for Pamela Porter’s fall 2010 collection, Cathedral.

Entry is free! The fun kicks off at 5pm, but if you get there early you can check out Ardea’s lovely selection of books (and, you know, maybe buy something, thus receiving two kinds of joy: a delicious new book or two, AND the knowledge that you’re helping to support this great new INDEPENDENT bookstore).

On April 5, Inge Israel will be reading from her new poetry collection Beckett Soundings at the Art Bar poetry series in Toronto. The Art Bar takes place on Tuesday evenings at 8 pm at Clinton’s, 693 Bloor Street West, Toronto. It is recognized as Canada’s longest running poetry-only weekly reading series. March 22: Pamela Porter at the Art Bar, Toronto

January 20: Sheila James in Toronto

On Thursday, January 20, Sheila James, author of the short story collection In the Wake of Loss, will be giving a talk/reading at the Toronto Women’s Bookstore (73 Harbord St., Toronto). The evening begins at 7pm.
More details to come.

In the Wake of the Loss was a finalist for the 2010 Ottawa Book Awards and gained an honourable mention in the ForeWord Book of the Year Award.

February 26–28: Beryl Young and Alan Twigg at the Galiano Literary Festival

Beryl Young, author of the prizewinning YA novel Follow the Elephant, and Alan Twigg, author of numerous books, most recently The Essentials: 150 Great B.C. Books & Authors, will be presenting at the Galiano Literary Festival on Galiano Island, BC, between February 25-28, 2011.

December 9: Howard Richler in Toronto

On December 9, join author Howard Richler for the Toronto launch of his latest book on language, Strange Bedfellows. The event takes place at The Annex Live (296 Brunswick Ave.) from 6:30pm to around 8:30pm. Howard will be giving an informal talk/reading about his research into the English language, and particularly about Strange Bedfellows. Free entry, cash bar, snacks will be provided.
