June 13: Lisa Anne Smith presents Vancouver Is Ashes

Please join us at 2:00 pm at the Hastings Mill Museum, where Lisa Anne Smith will offer an illustrated presentation of her book Vancouver Is Ashes in honour of the anniversary of the Great Vancouver Fire of 1886. Vancouver Is Ashes explores the insufficiently discussed morning of June 13, 1886, when a rogue wind fanned the flames of a small clearing fire—and within five hours, the newly incorporated city of Vancouver, British Columbia, was reduced to smoldering ash.

Lisa Anne Smith is an education docent at the Museum of Vancouver and a curator for the Old Hastings Mill Store Museum (the oldest building in Vancouver). The Hastings Mill Museum, formerly a sawmill on the south shore of the Burrard Inlet and the first commercial operation in Vancouver, is located at 1575 Alma St, Vancouver, BC.
